Chapter One
Spring - The Beginning

David lived on a quiet country farm with his mom, dad, and little sister Wendy. Beyond their porch stretched a field of golden corn, tall enough to sway over David's head.
​
One early morning, the rumble of a red truck came up the country road. Uncle Brad stepped out, opened the back door, and lifted out a basket covered with a soft blanket. "Look what I have for you," he said with a happy grin.
Inside the basket were three tiny piglets, their pink noses wiggling as they peeked out from under the blanket.
Uncle Brad explained that piglets were smart, curious, and lovable-and that they ate a lot too. Mom laughed and told him not to worry; there was plenty for them to eat here on the farm.
